However, over time, this noble idea has been perverted, leading to various negative consequences which are as follows:-

  • Violence and Abuse: The pressure to fulfill dowry demands can lead to emotional, physical, and even fatal violence against brides. It's a sad reality in many parts of the world.

  • Empowering Women: Education and economic empowerment of women have played a significant role in reducing the prevalence of dowry. When women have opportunities to support themselves, they become less vulnerable to dowry demands.
